By Katina Mooneyham Id think some kids would say yuck to the prospect of a compost bin especially when they learn of the rot and decay that go on in the pile. Some kids might think it interesting. Either way, knowing that compost helps the garden to grow better, faster and more productive can help change a kids mind about compost or make it more interesting. What is Composting? A compost pile is basically rotted material used to supplement a garden area with nutrients and moisture retention power. But its more than just a pile of rot. There is a science and art to a compost pile. Everything rots eventually. When it breaks down, it breaks down into a simpler, less complex substance. This can be stimulated by many things in the environment including weathering (erosion) and other chemicals. The soil consists of layers. The top layer is often called the organic material layer because its where the plants get their nutrients. When you form a compost pile, you are adding to this ability to maintain the correct amount of nutrients and add a moisture retention ability, the ability to hold water which the living plants need. Building a Compost Bin Compost piles can be simple or they can be elaborate. Kids can usually dig the simple compost pile. Its simple and yet a very effective compost pile. Containing the compost is the best bet because it allows you to control the pile better. It also prevents wind or animals from coming and destroying your compost pile. Any type of container will do as long as you have some air holes. The air does help break down the compost pile. Remember, it needs to rot. You could also take building materials such as bricks, blocks or wood and build a small box or rectangular shaped container. Then make sure you have some sort of lid even just a piece of wood that you place on top. Be sure to turn the compost at least once a day, preferably twice a day in hotter weather. The compost pile needs to cook. Cook? Yes, it gets hot and that helps organisms such as bacteria to further the rotting process. You can constantly add stuff to the compost pile as it continues to break down. It can take a little or long time to break down things depending on what it put into the compost pile. What to Put into the Compost Pile There are many things that can be put into the compost pile and there are some things you should not put into the compost pile. You can put leaves and grass clippings from when you (or your parents) mow the lawn. These help add nutrients too. You can also add table scraps such as the leftover green peas or other vegetables. Just be sure not to add any scraps that include meat or other material that contains oil like pastas. These can cause an odor and that might attract unwanted visitors to your compost pile such as raccoons, opossums and insects. You can add some things to a compost pile like a compost starter substance that you buy at a home and garden store. This contains helpful bacteria that help break down the compost pile faster and effectively. Remember to turn your compost pile at least once or twice a day. Turn it also when you add new stuff to mix it in good. Begin a compost pile today and you will have a very rich garden in the future. By Gabriel Rise The Jews who are known for their strict obeying the Law Code (recognized as Torah). But it was not mentioned for 600 years, since Moses put it in to the arc (Deut.31:25,26)! God said to Joshua (came after Moses) to keep the law Moses given and to obey all the law do not turn from right or the left (Joshua 1:6). Time passes. Josiah, the son of king Amon (2Kings21:23,26; 2Chron.33:25), is now the king. Once he sends his secretary to Hilkiah, the high priest, in his own purposes. But Josiahs secretary returns with the Book of the Law found by Hilkiah in the temple of the Lord (2Kings 22:3-8). Long-long time ago there was created a covenant between God and Abraham. As Abraham obeyed Gods word (to kill own son Isaac), God promised him seed and numerous offspring (Gen.22:15-18). This covenant repeats in the house of Judah, addressed to David (2Sam7:12). The Law brought by Moses consisted of 10 Commandments and more than 500 laws. Those laws illustrate the regulations for everyday-life, put the moral norms (Leviticus). Offerings (Lev.1-7:21), rules for the priests, Aaron and his sons exactly (Lev 8-9,21-22:16), food (Lev.7:22-38; 11;17), feasts (Lev.23) etc. Those laws were very concrete and God told that if Jews obey them, theyll be holy nation (Ex.19:5,6). But that book (Book of the Law) was put aside and forgotten for several hundred years. During Israelites journey to Promised land the book was put in the temple of God, where Hilkiah found it at the times Josiah became a king. It was after 600 years. Coming to Promised Land Joshua, son of Nun (Deut.34:9), conquers it and since that time theres times of Kings. David, son of the elder Jesse (Ruth4:22), born in Bethlehem, is the king from the house of Judah (2Sam.2:4,10). Theres a covenant between God and David (2Sam7:12). After kingdom of David there comes his son Solomon, whos well-known for his wisdom. And so during the times of David he claims the new capital for Israel, Jerusalem. Later Solomon builds the temple for god (2 Chr.7). Theres interesting thing about the covenants Davidic and Solomon ones. God promised David the eternal establishing of Davids descendants as kings. Moreover, that covenant was kind of unconditional, permanent as there were no limits. Let me explain, no matter what the person Davids son is (even sinful) God wont take love from him anyway. Just remember Abijah, son of Rehoboam, grandson of Solomon (1Chr.3:10). He was such unrighteous as his father Rehoboam (1Kings 15:3). Nevertheless God remained kind to him, remembering David (1Kings 15:4,5). Even in the war with Jeroboam, son of the slave of Solomon (2Chr.13:6), where he complained that after being so sinful, God remains kind to Abijah, God helps the last one (2Chr.13). But further, in the Solomon Covenant God rephrases it making the covenant conditional (Davidic covenant changes automatically). And the covenant was claimed after building the temple of God by Solomon. God puts the detail in the covenant in order to proceed as a king, Solomons sons must be righteous (obeying all the laws God wants to be obeyed) (1Kings 9:5-7). This restating of the covenant explains fall of Jerusalem (destroying the Temple). Being patient to the kings, the descendants of David, God closed his eyes to numerous sins of numerous kings. Just remember Manasseh, the grandfather of known Josiah (1Chr.3:13,14). How evil and immoral that king was (2Kings 21:1-9,16)! Still God did not punish him for the deeds remembering the covenant. The only thing the prophets were sent who preached that because of sins kings made, Jerusalem is to be destroyed (2Kings21:10-15). Theres the connection between Shiloh and Anathoth. Anathoth is mentioned only several times but we already can say something about it. This city was one of the ones given to Aaronites, the Levites (Josh.21:18). Reading OT is getting very complicated. DH, the books of prophets are considered as historical ones. And its well-known that history is written by humans and even historical objects are created depending on the author. Indeed Bible is the Book of Books but therere many black spots in it. We sometimes even do not know the true, physical writer of the book. Remember Jeremiah, son of well-known to us Hilkiah from Anathoth. His book is about unrighteous lives of Jews in their kings, Gods restrictions and anticipates; the results of not seeing not hearing of Gods anticipating putting in the mouths of his prophesies. Powerful book named Jeremiah was probably written by Jeremiahs laborious secretary Baruch. Such theory lives because of several verses (Jer.36:4,45:1). Its seen that the religion was connected with politics tightly. Religion expected strong rules obeying and as the result, politics was created looking at the obeying God. If a king did not consider religion (Im talking about Jews) he was in trouble. Theres no any righteous king till the end.
