Creative Ideas For Beautiful Garden Art

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Anne Clarke Why not take some basic household items or even trash and turn them into one-of-a-kind, beautiful garden art? Garden art, like all art, is often in the eyes of the beholder. Perhaps, up until this point, you have focused mainly on the art inside your home. Perhaps, you have never even considered garden art — after all, is that not what the flowers are there for? Do you really need additional art? Of course you do not need to have garden art in your garden, but just as the right picture frame can enhance a photo or the right throw pillow can add finesse to a couch, the right garden art can really add a lot of character to your garden. It is possible to find garden art that works with the particular “look” that you want in your garden. That being said, there are many different types of garden art out there for you to choose from. There are many different places to buy it, and there are many different ways to display it. The main thing to remember is to have fun with your garden art, and make sure that it reflects your own personality. Feel free to make your own garden art, as well! You can even use items that are just hanging around the house. Here are some examples of household items that you can turn into beautiful garden art: A bathtub. You or your neighbor just finished remodeling a bathroom. The question is: what should you do with the old bathtub? Well, you can quickly turn an old bathtub into beautiful garden art. All you need to do is fill her up with soil, and plant your favorite plants and flowers inside. Of course, a bathtub planter looks best with a clawfoot tub, but you can have fun with other tubs as well. Also, consider using the sink, or even the toilet as planters, and create a really whimsical look! You could even use a bathtub to make a garden pond. A chandelier. As logic has it, a chandelier belongs inside a home. But perhaps the chandelier that you have in your home no longer fits with your modern dcor. Or, perhaps it no longer works or is missing crystals. What should you do with it? Why not turn it into garden art! A chandelier looks beautiful hanging from a tree in your backyard. Hang it over your patio table. Watch the sun shine through the prism crystals and create rainbows throughout your garden. Bottles. If you have fancy wine bottles or other bottles of interesting colors and shapes and sizes, consider hanging them from a tree. The bottles make interesting sounds in the wind and reflect beautiful light when it is sunny. To some, bottles hanging from a tree may look like trash, but to many, including me, it will look like beautiful garden art. Broken dishes. Oh dear! You have just broken your favorite china plate. What can you do with it besides sweep it into the trash? Actually, there is something that you can do with it. Why not take some of the largest shards of broken dishes and turn them into a mosaic? You could make a mosaic stepping stone or tabletop. You could even mosaic part of a wall! Forks and spoons. You can take ordinary forks and spoons and turn them into a wind chime! Or you can even use them to help you with your gardening — forks and spoons can be very useful for planting plants in pots or working around small plants. Old clothes. Why not create a classic scarecrow! This is a project that you and your kids can enjoy. As you can see, there are many ways in which you can turn household items into garden art. All you need to do is look around your home, look around your garden, and be creative. Make sure that you have fun with your garden art! Embroidery Designs Digitizing Software

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Sandy Carter Embroidery Magic 2 software program was created with multiple function lettering, editing and digitizing features for embroidery designs and was designed for those who have home embroidery machines and software. We have also have had customers purchase this embroidery software who have well established commercial embroidery businesses but have found that it creates better lettering than any other program they have purchased, regardless of price! However, in regard to the EM 2 price, it should be understood that you will not get the full features of a high end digitizing program with a lot of bells and whistles. Lets focus on what is included in this great, very affordable program! Features of Embroidery Magic 2 This embroidery software generates text stitch files from keyboard font styles. This allows the user to resize and use up to three different styles of underlay and also determine other settings for various uses of the embroidery lettering created. It also allows the user to manually digitize machine embroidery designs from the tools provided. The Real View feature will allow you to see an embroidery design in a more realistic way than the digitizing view allows. [Please remember that this is not an exact replication of the actual stitched design.] EM 2 has 114 different fabric backgrounds with the capability of adding fabric choices by scanning a fabric and saving as a bmp file format in the Fabric folder of EM 2. There is a Tutorial available that shows new users, in a step by step fashion, how to use this great software bargain. Early Spring Cleaning

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

By Kandi White Has anyone noticed how fast 2004 is going? Hey, we are in December already. I really like December not only because peopleare nicer to each other and all the pretty decorations are around, but people stop and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. Did you get that gift you wanted last year from your husband orwife or are you wishing for it again this year? I encourage you to go for it and I also want to invite you to accept a FREE gift that is greater than any gift you can imagine. That gift is to accept Jesus into your home and most importantly into your life this Christmas. Make it a personal gift. You do not have to go shopping for it, you do not have to wish or beg for it, just simply ask and it will be given to you. In return for the gift of inviting Jesus to dine with you and livein you, do some early spring cleaning. Think of all the thingsthat are worrying you and getting you down. Give them to Jesus,he will gladly accept them. Most importantly tell him thank youfor taking them from you. Do not worry that he cant handle them,he can handle truck loads of worry. Give Jesus your bad habits and all those little things that wecall sins. Tell him all about them. Jesus will listen and theresno bad habit or sin he cant fix. As a matter of fact the pricefor our sins has already been paid. Once we repent, we are forgiven. Look, more early spring cleaning finished. Dont worry Jesus can handle everything and help us clean up our acts. He really wants to do this for us. Is there someone youre not speaking to or cant get along with?Tell Jesus your problems. Hes willing to listen and he reallydoes care. He will help you make amends. If we just give it all to Jesus this Christmas and every day of our lives, by spring we might just need to bring out the dust cloth because things will be so much cleaner and lighter. There will be joy instead of sadnessand a peacefulness within that is sometimes hard to explain. Please, early spring clean and give it all to Jesus each and everyday. Keys To Success In College

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By David Richards College education is a big step for anybody to take. Many young people are overwhelmed when they are standing on that threshold. However, there are some tips you can follow that will help you along. If you follow them precisely they can become your keys to success in your higher education ! It is wise to start up with the planning early. In fact, it’s never to soon to think about what you want to do with your college education. A question like ‘What do you want to do with your life?’ can be pretty Scary, huh? But as a matter of fact, it shouldn’t be. Since planning has to do with questions like What I will be doing ten years from now, it should be a fun and exciting session to look forward to But getting into the right school and getting where you need to go is tough. The competition is stiff. Everybody is trying to get into the most coveted schools, so you have to think about your strengths. Unfortunately, those SAT and ACT scores are important. I know, that’s no accurate test of what a brilliant and creative and deserving individual you are. But, that’s the way the system works. Do you want to be admitted into a top-notch Ivy League school? Then you have to get those scores as high as you can. Actually, it’s good to do that no matter where you are applying. What else makes a difference? Your whole academic record will help you get into the school of your choosing. Watch you attendance and grades. Those will all be factors. Last year, the admissions boards had the toughest time choosing applicants. The stakes are being raised, and you don’t want to get left behind. So, don’t blow off those easy classes or settle for second best when it comes to grades; it matters in the end. Test scores are important, and they are getting higher every year. What this means, is that you will have a tougher time than those before you. The competition is high. One reason for this is the wide availability of study guides to help you crack the tests. Everyone is buying these and studying, and it’s paying off with high test scores. This is why it’s more important than ever to blow those scores away. Public high schools are increasingly cracking down on disciplinary problems. If you are planning on a lucrative college career, watch what you do in high school. Remember how everybody always says, ‘This will go on your permanent record?’ Well, this will go on your permanent record. It’s always best to keep on the safe side and stay out of trouble. A little trouble today can cause you a lot of trouble tomorrow. Many parents are getting non-traditional educations for their kids, or sending them to private schools. This is one way to ensure the quality of their education. These kids have a distinct advantage over those who attend regular public schools. Once again, the bar is rising. It has been shown that home schooled kids usually have test scores comparable with those who attend private schools. This means that they are not just doing what it takes, but going above and beyond what is expected. We have seen that the more active parents are in helping their kids with their studies, the more it will pay off. All parents wish the best for their children and if your parents seem pushy about grades and overbearing, remember that they’re just looking out for your best interests for the next few years. With a good college education, you can find a great job and make good money. The process starts in high school, and what you put into it is what you get out of it. If you think all this sound intimidating, you probably should re-think it: it’s not reallyintimidating at all. Just hit your books and take your studies seriously. Don’t blow it off, be patient and try to get the highest scores you can. Rest assured that the future is in your hands. Lose the Fat that Lurks Within

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By Di Roberts Successful weight loss isn’t just about pounds right? For one way to know if you’re at your Happy Weight, the weight at which you look and feel your best, you have only to look in the mirror and try on or imagine yourself in a bikini or a Speedo. Nice picture? If there’s a pronounced belly effect in this image, you’re probably carrying too much visceral fat. That’s fat we really want to lose. That’s the fat that’s actually inside your body, not just under the skin like subcutaneous fat is. No, the visceral fat is wrapping itself around your liver and other vitals. Not only that, it doesn’t just sit there quietly destroying your buff image. Oh no. Those fat cells are veritable factories, gushing bad hormones and spitting out factors that shut down the production of the good ones. Recent studies have implicated excess visceral fat as increasing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and, possibly, dementia and some types of cancer. Not a pretty thought. For instance, in a study on 27,000 people in 52 countries, scientists found that the body mass index, a commonly used indicator of obesity which uses a weight to height ratio, wasn’t really different in people who had heart attacks compared to those who didn’t. But the waist-to-hip circumference ratio, a measurement of visceral fat, was significantly higher in the heart attack victims, regardless of gender or other risk factors. So what’s a good waist to hip ratio? There is some controversy about this, but an often-cited “ideal” value for women is 0.8 or less and 0.95 or less for men. It’s like the “apple” or “pear” shape comparisons we’ve heard about before. Other studies on show just as chilling results for those high visceral fat with respect to risk for metabolic syndrome, dementia, gallstones, breast cancer in women, and overall death in men. So there we are. Besides being something we don’t like to see in the mirror, this kind of fat is actually dangerous. Fortunately, the doctors say it is also relatively easy to release this kind of fat. Since those fat cells are so metabolically active, it responds to proper diet and exercise, though not to sit-ups and liposuction, natch. The dietary warning flags go up for saturated fats, the ones that are solid, like butter, lard, and animal fat. I bet you already knew to stay away from those, but now we have another reason. But one of the best-studied ways to keep visceral fat from increasing with age and to even get it off once it’s there is with exercise. Researchers at Duke University Medical Center reported that overweight people in their study would gain about 8.6% in six months, or about 4 more pounds a year, if they didn’t exercise, much of it visceral fat, in an article published in the October, 2005, issue of the Journal of Applied Physiology. Duke exercise physiologist Cris Slentz, Ph.D., the lead author, said “We also found that a modest exercise program equivalent to a brisk 30-minute walk six times a week can prevent accumulation of visceral fat, while even more exercise can actually reverse the amount of visceral fat.” The 30 minutes six times a week translates to about 12 miles a week of either brisk walking or jogging. At about 17 miles of jogging or the equivalent on various cardio machines, the amount of visceral fat goes down. The next thing to study is the effect of adding in some resistance or weight training and see if that holds the visceral fat at bay or even makes it go away faster. The people who participated in this study weren’t allowed to change their diet so the researchers could study one thing at a time. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t. Gotta to go find my tape measure, now. And my pedometer. See you later. Di Roberts runs a weight loss website that covers the many facets of weight management. How To Start Your Information Technology Career - Or Jumpstart It!

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Chris Bryant Many newcomers to the IT field are surprised when they find out it’s tougher to get that first job than they thought it would be. I know exactly what that’s like. I’ve had a great career in IT and I’d recommend it to anyone, but I had a tough time breaking in as well. I’d like to share some tips with you on how to get started on what can be a financially rewarding and personally satisfying career in Information Technology. School systems are a great place to start. A lot of newcomers forget that schools around the world need IT personnel to support school networks, printers, etc. I began my career with a public school system and it was the best move I could ever have made. If you land such a job, you’ll be doing everything from unjamming printers to supporting the school’s Local Area Network (LAN). You get experience that is going to look great on your resume - you’ll have a big advantage over those whose job responsibilities are narrower. You won’t make a lot of money, but what you need at the beginning of your career is experience, not money. Which brings me to my second point …. Don’t chase the dollars. I know, I know. We all like money, and besides, maybe you’ve got some bills to pay! I’m not suggesting you work for free, but the question you must ask yourself when starting your IT career is this: “What do I want my resume to look like in three years?” The money will be there - if your resume shows a broad range of experience. That’s what you need to get when you’re considering your first job. Use your long-term vision to decide what kind of IT job you want to be in three years from now, and get a job that will give you the necessary experience. Get certified. You have entered a field where you are always learning - or at least, you better be! If you stand still and stop learning, your skills will become obsolete and your IT career will stall. Start adding certifications to your resume to go along with your experience. Look into programs that deal primarily with PCs, such as A+, and then look at more advanced certifications such as the MCSE and the CCNA. When you are certified in all three major networking areas (hardware, server OS, and routers), you are a “triple threat”! Combine that with some experience and you will end up with a very impressive resume. Network. Networking has two different meanings in IT, and you know the first one. But besides computer networking, there’s human networking. Get out there and meet people. Your local newspaper has a business section -check it for IT group meetings. The more you’re seen, the more chance you have of being remembered. It’s a small world, and IT is a small world as well. Meet the business leaders of your area as well. It is amazing how a quick face-to-face meeting or conversation can lead to great things down the road. Having a successful IT career isn’t just about knowing a lot about computers and networks. It’s knowing the right way to get started, getting the right combination of experience and certifications, and meeting people. I know from experience that it’s tough to get started. I also know from experience that no career field rewards individual drive like IT does. So get started today - and if you feel your IT career is stalled, take a step back, list the reasons why this has happened, and then do something about it!
